With : Jérôme Fino, Sarah Brown, 18 children of Saint-Nazaire-le- Désert's primary School, them teacher Alice Dubief and her assistant Muriel Polny.
This workshop has been supported by Fondation de France, DRAC Rhône-Alpes, CRDP de l'académie de Grenoble and the municipal team.

Jérôme Fino proposes to the children to build sound objects and to distribute the objects in several places of the village. Sarah Brown will capture everything with her camera.

Cécile Babiole is invited to compose a score for sewing machines, that will be played by musicians, tailors and amateurs from the Valley, during a 3 days workshop, and for a performance called Stitch'n glitch.

Algo-Lit will gather and work around i-literature and free software, following the principles of the Oulipo-meetings: they will share work and thoughts and write/code together algorithmic based texts. At Désert Numérique, the collective will share its researches on collective writing process through a radiophonic piece. .

Cécile Babiole is invited to compose a score for sewing machines, that will be played by musicians, tailors and amateurs from the Valley, during a 3 days workshop, and for a performance called Stitch'n glitch.

After the concert, the tissues sewn by white sons will be exhibited at Salle des Fêtes, as reverse partitions, written during the performance.

Notation can't be explored without engaging cooking recipes : a participative banquet, prepared by Sylvain Bèche will be held for the opening night, where inhabitants of Saint-Nazaire-le-Desert are invited to bring a speciality of the region.
This banquet is musical, composed by all our musics : everyone is invited to bring a poeme, any text or recipe, an instrument (any kind but computer), and this potlach playlist will be drawn.

With : JODI

JODI, JODI collective composed by Joan Heemskerk and Dirk Paesmans, from the Netart scene, deconstruct both language and code.
Folksomy performance is a patchwork of popular video on internet, which explores the emblematic figures of youtube : from teenager amateur interpretations to domestic pets taken in obvious offence of stupidity.

JODI will also present during the festival his APP ZYX, a smartphone application that give a score for a collective choregraphy of simple gesture.

On the menu: creations with code and literature written, read and pronounced by humans and scripts working in intimate collaboration with other digital tools and platforms. Since many years, Sébastien Roux works on the concept of translation: he uses a preexistant artwork (visual, musical, litterary) as a score for the realisation of a new soundwork (radiophonic or electro-acoustic). After his visite at DIA Beacon foundation where Sol LeWitt Wall drawings are exhibited, Sébatien Roux tried to imagine a system to aim to "listen" to these drawings.
These researches conduct to Inevitable Music, a series of sound translations of Sol LeWitt works. This electroacoustic pieces are given to listen as collective listening sessions.

The electronic image is established by a physical and chemical électroluminescente reaction, based on the generation of flow in realtime. Even the absence of reception still produces the most complex visibility. How to define this appearance, between phenomenon and representation? The electronic images machine is used here for what it produces as effect: an experience of consternation.

Listening Session in three chapters according to St Julien l' Hospitalier's legend of Gustave Flaubert.
This play joins within the framework of the Translations, the project which consists in using a pre-existent work as score of a new sound realization.
All the sounds heard during the play are based on the sentences of the text which describe sound situations or which contain dialogues. They were then ordered according to their position in the text. The composition consisted in building the route which connects these sound tags.

Last part of the festival, the transformation of the real related to algorithmic surveillance technologies, with a screening of Moutons 2.0. La puce à l'oreille by Antoine Costa et Florian Pourchi. The movie, who shows RFID chips installation on sheeps to guaranty their traceability, strongly echoes the relation of the village with technology.

Coproduction Désert Numérique and La Muse en Circuit with the support of SCAN Rhône-Alpes and DICRéAM.

Alejo Duque et Cyrille Henry propose a performance called Drone Tone. The musical performance deals with the frightening power of military drones, and its score is based on remote controlled flying devices. Drone Tone explores different ways of generating sound by transforming drones into musical instruments.

Bck/NMKB it is, on one side, monitors of video surveillance transformed into analog synthesizer, and on the other side, saturated sine that become entangled in powerful frequencies. Of this meeting between electric modulation and digital synthesis, Bck/NMKB tries to fit out a sound space from which the structure emerges and stabilizes gradually, according to the interferences and the interactions of the waves which are in confrontation, add up and neutralize each other mutually.

2 cymbals, 2 beetles, 2 micro-contacts, 2 cables, 1 system of broadcasting with woofers. Make resound 2 cymbals partially superimposed, create a fog of low frequencies which fills the space, visit the memory of walls, invite the listener to modify the listening by moving in the space and to discover the phenomenon of vibrations.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

Le festival Désert Numérique se déroule à Saint-Nazaire-le-Désert, un village isolé de Drôme provençale. À la fois rendez-vous des publics et des réseaux professionnels, Désert Numérique met en perspective les pratiques artistiques numériques et analogiques, dans un ensemble décalé qui suscite la curiosité. Désert Numérique propose une découverte des arts numériques au travers de l'existant, inscrit les arts numériques dans une histoire collective, et désamorce les mythes de la surenchère technologique.

Boris Husser, régisseur général, a également réalisé les tampons grâce à une découpeuse laser.
Carl.Y intervient cette année auprès de Cécile Babiole pour mener à bien l'Workshop et le concert de machines à coudre.
Fabrice Schoumacher fait profiter le festival de ses talents d'électricien.
Sylvain Bèche, cuisinier, se charge du catering.
